Be Still

New Living Translation (©2007)
"Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world."

To be perfectly candid, I struggle with stillness. By nature, I tend to involve myself in busyness, and consistently impose multitasks upon myself. Something within me feels like I must be accomplishing. If there is one scripture that I have taken and run with, and perhaps distorted in my mind, it is:

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but
as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what
the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17

His word is true, always, but everything needs to be in balance to function properly. Being still is refreshing, and allows my mind and heart to receive. Giving is a great thing, and I love pouring out and giving to others. It is so blessed. At the same time, I am learning to be still and receive from the lord.

At my own expense I just had a good chuckle, since this concept of being still is one I’ve been trying to apply for many years. Inroads have been made, but still He continues His work in me.

There will always be distractions, things we can busy ourselves with, but being still is an exercise that always pays off. Meditating on HIS word will allow it to take root, and bare fruit.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth does change” (Psalm 46:1-2a). Hallelujah! The earth is constantly changing. God never changes. I will be still and know HE is God, redeeming my time.
